About the role

The Cargo Operations team manages all operational aspects associated with cargoes of Fuel Oil and Clean Petroleum Products from load port to disport.

The team also plays a key role in leveraging Ampol's commercial capabilities to capture value.

The Cargo Operators are responsible for ensuring information relating to cargoes is communicated to stakeholders including Trading, third parties operations and Shipping and Terminal Schedulers.


Key responsibilities

Managing the operational duties from load port to disport for Fuel Oil and Clean Petroleum Products cargoes

  • Includes managing contracts and general terms and conditions,, nominating delivery dates, cargoes and volumes to counterparties as per contract, appointing Surveyors and Shipping Agents, ensuring Qualities and quantities meet the Purchase and Sale requirements, managing local relationships, obtaining updates from and providing information to Agents, coordination of vessel terminal clearances and monitoring voyage progression
  • Cargo Operators will be accountable for a number of cargoes and/or contracts at a given time, and are also expected to be flexible to perform backup for other cargo operators across Ampol's Fuel Oil and Clean Petroleum Products cargoes.

Operational integration with the Shipping team

  • Work closely with Chartering, Marine Assurance and Shipping Operators (TC) to ensure alignment on timing, stowage plans, instructions and any operational issues.

Identification and actioning commercial opportunities that generate benefits for Ampol

  • Work with the Fuel Oil and Clean Petroleum Products Traders and Charterers to identify and capture any benefits from the commercial terms negotiated between Ampol and its counterparties.

Providing Cargo Operations input and feedback to the cargo planning and scheduling processes

  • Participate in the monthly cargo planning processes including providing feedback on load port reliability, reviewing any cargo plans for feasibility and assisting in the identification of the best sourcing options for each cargo. Work with other Cargo Operators and Terminal Schedulers to manage operational and timing issues e.g. late shipments, quality concerns etc.

Managing all cargo compliance requirements

  • Ensure each cargo meets all compliance requirements including credit documents (Letters of Credit, Parent Company Guarantees), stowage, UKC and cargo integrity, shipping documents, customs requirements and any local regulatory requirements.

Maintain the integrity of system data

  • Ensure ownership of all information entered and recorded into the Ampol cargo information management systems (e.g. Allegro, SAP, Sharepoint, Outlook etc.) for Cargo Operations.

Direct and coach experienced level operators

Cargo Operations on call duties

  • Required to be available out of office hours to attend to any Cargo Operations requirements.

Skills & experience

Qualification

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Finance or Business or related discipline or relevant cargo operational experience at sea.

Experience

  • Commercial experience in the downstream oil industry and/or petroleum trading companies in areas such as Supply planning, Supply operations, line finance roles and corporate planning and strategy (minimum 5 years).
  • Voyage Management experience is advantageous
  • Biofuel oil experience is advantageous
  • Managing highly complex projects within cargo operations
  • Prior experience coaching and mentoring lower level professionals

Knowledge & Skills

  • Maintains an in depth understanding of load port and disport operations and other relevant principles and concepts
  • Strong understanding of petroleum product shipping and oil tanker operations.
  • Competition and Consumer Act (Australia) and Consumer Protection Act (Singapore) compliant and has an understanding of the requirements of other relevant regulations.
  • Strong understanding of the Petroleum Supply Chain process including key drivers of value.
