- Required to undergo an intensive 4-week IBP which includes competency assessments, on-the-job training, and familiarisation with OBS' operations
- Lead OBS participant groups on mainland expeditions, conduct OBS courses for participants of Secondary 3 students through vigorous overnight programmes.
- Facilitate the participants' learning and development and be responsible for their safety and well-being.
- Required to stay in with the participants throughout the course duration.
- Expected to conduct not more than 3 overnight programmes per month.
- Required to fulfil minimum requirement of 2 overnight programmes per month in their first 3 months of deployment, followed by 1 overnight programme per month in the remaining contract period.

Roles & ResponsibilitiesJob Scope:
Job Requirements:
• Relevant outdoor instructor experience – at least 2 years or 200 programme days of experience conducting outdoor education and/or expeditionary programmes (preferably with youth as main participant profile);
• Skills in navigation using a map and compass
• Passion for engaging and developing the youths;
• Resilient to work under pressure, resourceful and ability to adapt;
• Facilitation and communication skills to guide participants in learning;
• Strong situational and safety awareness to manage the well-being of participants;
• Comfortable with overnight camps / courses
• Be physically and mentally fit to supervise the learning and safety of participants throughout the entire OBS programme.
• Possess valid certifications in all the following skills and competencies:
1. Kayaking – Singapore Canoe Federation (SCF)'s Level 3 Proficiency
2. Challenge Ropes Course (CRC) – OBS CRC Leaders' Course, OBS Challenge Course Instructor (CCI) Level 1 or Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 1
3. Rock Climbing – Singapore National Climbing Standard (SNCS) Level 1
4. First Aid – Standard First Aid or National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Wilderness First Aid, and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and AED
Any similar certifications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
9-months contract: 3 June 2024 – 28 February 2025
Salary:
Daily Rate (Training): $132.50
Daily Rate (Deployment): $181 - $235
Condition(s) of Concern:
For your own safety and well-being, you may not be shortlisted for the position if you have any of the following condition(s):
• Cardiac conditions e.g. ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia, congenital heart conditions
• Respiratory conditions e.g. exercise-induced asthma
• Seizure (with history of episode/medication within last 2 years)
• History of anaphylaxis (due to environmental/food allergens)
• Any conditions that may cause:
a. Inability to perform strenuous/physically demanding activities and movements for prolonged periods of time (e.g. carry loads of 15 – 20 kgs for 5 – 6 hours a day);
b. Inability to see colours or see in the dark/night;
c. Inability to conduct outdoor activities and independently supervise the safety of minors; and/or
d. Danger/hazard to self or others in an outdoor/wilderness setting.
