Teaching Partner - Secondary Years (FEP)


XCL World Academy has a vacancy for the school year for
Teacher Partner to assist EAL students in intensive English Programming from Secondary Years in Grades 6 to 9.

This is a full-time contract position starting from 1 August 2024.


The successful incumbent should be able to converse with students and parents who are from non-English speaking backgrounds and be proficient in Chinese, Japanese and Koren to provide assistance for the Teachers.


Main Responsibilities

  • A Teacher Partner would directly work with students supporting the EAL Specialist teachers on a daily basis with the educational programme and lead classroom duties such as assisting with classroom activities, classroom projects, projectbased learning, vocabulary acquisition activities, speaking modules, listening practice, homework, organizing folders, notifying parents on updates of students and assisting students during activities and breaks.
  • Calling of parents and guardians for various matters such as updating parents of student issues or coordinating meetings between parents and FEP coordinator. Assist with translation whenever needed between teachers, parents and students.
  • To assist and attend to parents in school, guiding and directing them to accurate places and ensuring parents are not left alone to ensure they do not enter staff restricted areas.
  • Receiving and onboarding new families twice a week, including placing new students into their homerooms and elective wheel groups based on data received from Registrar.
  • Implementing FEP in house placement tests, providing scores objective responses and collating final scores for FEP coordinator.
  • Assisting with scanning, bulk printing, laminating, cutting and other administrative work as assigned
  • Assisting with daily situation such as student emergencies
  • Handles the displays of work for the Bulletin Boards.
  • Assisting to conduct student detention, suspension activities and student disciplinary issues.
  • Able to support the students with reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English.
  • Manages and interacts with children in a positive and supportive manner and would assist in the execution of instructional plans by supporting children individually or in groups in the classroom.
  • Would pick up and drop off students with class teachers for lessons, to the library, cafeteria, bus bay, nurse station,elective wheel, PE/Gym, or other facilities.
  • Undertake playground supervision as per the duty roster, ensuring expectations are being consistently reinforced.
  • Build on student capabilities and differentiate to meet student needs.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with peers, showing respect, being prepared and on time, and always adhering to the schoolwide meeting norms and essential team agreements
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  • Join the Specialists in Professional Development and capacitybuilding as appropriate
  • Involve students in shared reflections during and at the end of each unit on a consistent basis.
  • Evaluate the program collaboratively with teaching partners, parents, and students as appropriate, using agreed flexible systems
  • Handle the inventory of office supplies, such as ensuring office supplies are replenished, ordered and received timely and stored, maintenance of appliances and ensuring tidiness and cleanliness of the FEP Office area.
  • Assisting to locate students and ensuring they get to the correct classes
  • Safekeeping of student items
  • All other duties as assigned by the line manager, relevant to the role in the FEP office.

Person Specifications

  • Minimum Advanced Certification/ Diploma in Early childhood, EAL, ESL courses or relevant courses.
  • Able to converse with non English speaking students and parents who are mainly from Chinese, Japanese and Korean language speaking backgrounds.
  • Excellent proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
  • Preferably Certified in Child First Aid.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with students as a fulltime Homeroom Teacher Assistant would be preferred.
  • Provides excellent customer service to parents, students, teachers, and school leaders.
  • Promote and market the school to relevant stakeholders where appropriate.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, parents, students, and the wider school community.


  • This is a 2 year contract position, and there are opportunities for the contract to be renewed.
