About the role - you will:

The Associate General Counsel role will be based out of our Singapore office, and will report to the Deputy General Counsel in the US.

You will lead and manage the Asia commercial contracts team comprising of senior attorneys/professionals from Singapore, China and Thailand.


Together with a collaborative group of professional legal colleagues from around the world, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting, challenging, and often cutting-edge legal issues that require creative and proactive legal advice and client service.


Commercial Contracts

  • Working with crossfunctional clients to support our complex global business, the Asia commercial contracts team provides commercial contract support and general legal advisory services on a broad range of legal issues to business clients primarily in Singapore, China, Thailand, Malaysia and India, as well as in other multiple worldwide sites as required.
  • The Asia commercial contracts team specializes in both local and crossborder commercial contracts. The team utilizes Seagate standard templates, and works closely with internal requestors and stakeholders to determine business requirements, review terms of contract, identify nonstandard terms, and obtain approvals in accordance with Seagate policies.
  • The team owns the contract workflow and approval processes, and manages the existing contracts database throughout the contract lifecycle, from negotiating, drafting, amending, reviewing, through signing and archiving, with the support of an administrative assistant located in Singapore.

Cross-Functional Support; Other Duties

  • The Associate General Counsel may also be required to extend support to other areas of the legal department, such as dispute resolution, intellectual property, government relations, compliance and ethics, and labor law, and work with and manage relationships with outside counsel.
  • You will be required to stay abreast of legislative, regulatory and judicial developments that may affect the company.
  • You will also have responsibilities in developing and delivering training, supporting audits and other initiatives.
  • In addition, this role may be asked to take on other further duties per the discretion of management.

About you:

Management and Leadership:


  • Law degree or equivalent with admission to practice law and at least 10 years of postqualification experience.
  • Competent people manager with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, invested in employee development and coaching, able to provide direction, guidance and motivation to direct reports, draw out their strengths and support their career development within the company, and create a positive work environment.
  • An excellent communicator with ability to work independently, as well as successfully collaborate in partnerships across multiple sites in crossfunctional projects.
  • Experience leading and managing a crossborder team of senior attorneys/professionals providing legal and contractual support to business clients in multiple worldwide sites across different time zones.
  • Detailoriented, organized, and hardworking.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong crossfunctional partnerships with all levels of the organization, and be recognized by clients as a trusted and strategic legal business partner that actively participates in problem solving with director level crossfunctional peers as well as executive leaders by assessing risks, weighing in and making recommendations to the business.
  • Ability to thrive in a fastpaced work environment with the initiative to take on, manage and drive multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure to completion.
  • Ability to think strategically and critically, lead with confidence and compassion, influence crossfunctional teams, solve problems creatively and make decisions.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, unquestionable ethics and integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office 365 products.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written professional communication skills in English.
