    Roles & Responsibilities

    Performs risk & safety engineering and consulting assignments normally involving a major project or several small or less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives, and require the investigation of variables dependent on the nature of work undertaken.

    Job Duties/Roles

    The Lead Engineer will be proactive in leading projects / tasks, and obtains instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. Expected to work independently to source solutions for unusual problems, with support from the team, and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. Performs work that involves conventional types of risk and safety consulting work, including but not limited to: possible workshop facilitation (HAZID/HAZOP/SIL), Technical Safety Studies (Fire and Explosion, Escape Evacuation, QRA, etc.), Client facing Technical meetings, possible CFD simulation tasks. May be assisted by Snr. engineers or engineers. May be responsible for phases of a single revenue-producing project and client interactions.

    • Interfaces with clients to define a scope of work and job tasks.
    • Performs as a team member, technical lead or a project manager, consistent with skills and experience required for the project.
    • Drafts technically accurate and timely reports, responses to letters, faxes, and other forms of communication. Communication skills are continually developed – both written and oral.
    • Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, and other presentation materials.
    • Reviews other engineers' work, and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
    • Prepare and submit time charge records and expense reports in a timely manner, in accordance with Company procedures.
    • Ensures that work products are appropriately reviewed before delivery to client.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)

    • Working knowledge of the ABS Quality and Environmental Management System (ISO 9000/14000)
    • Knowledge of related technical disciplines – specifically Risk & Safety / HSE
    • Ability to utilize basic personal computer applications including spreadsheets, word processors, email, engineering programs, and Internet browsers.
    • Ability to identify and efficiently analyze solutions to problems.
    • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
    • Ability to work well with others.

    Minimum years of Experience

    A minimum of 7 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of advanced education and work experience.

    Required/Preferred Education Requirements

    Generally requires a B.S. Degree
