[What the role is]

This is a contract position until 28 Feb 2026 as a Research Engineer in the School of Engineering.

[What you will be working on]

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Engineer with a background in mechanical engineering to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical design, analysis, and prototyping, coupled with a passion for research and innovation. This individual will play a key role in conducting research, developing new technologies, and advancing our organization's objectives in various sectors.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Conduct research and development activities to explore new technologies, processes, and methodologies in the field of mechanical engineering.
Design and prototype mechanical systems and modules for a wide range of applications, relative to additive manufacturing, industrial equipment, and medical devices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, software developers, and lecturers to integrate mechanical solutions into multidisciplinary projects.
Utilize CAD/CAM software and simulation tools to model, analyze, and optimize mechanical designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Conduct feasibility studies, literature reviews, and technical investigations to identify research opportunities and address engineering challenges.
Stay current with emerging trends, advancements, and best practices in mechanical engineering through literature review, conferences, and professional development activities.
Work closely with external partners, vendors, and academic institutions to leverage expertise, resources, and collaboration opportunities for research projects.
Document research findings, experimental procedures, and design specifications in technical reports, presentations, and publications.

[What we are looking for]

Minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering, product or system development, with a focus on research and development.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Solid Edge, NX Cam, Solid Works) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
Experience with rapid prototyping techniques, such as 3D printing and CNC machining.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex engineering problems and propose innovative solutions.
Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Passion for research, innovation, and pushing the boundaries of mechanical engineering.
