    Job Summary

    Zendesk is searching for a highly motivated Software Engineer to join our Messaging team based in our Singapore office. This team is dedicated to empowering our customers by delivering the best possible messaging experiences to their end users. The chosen candidate will play a vital role in enhancing our customer messaging experience, driving our goals towards the realization of an ultimate omni-channel customer engagement product.

    As a Software Engineer at Zendesk, you are expected to be a hands-on technologist with the ability to contribute directly to application development. Your responsibilities will include actively participating in the design and implementation of projects, as well as immersing yourself in technical discussions that extend beyond your team.

    Prior experience with web infrastructure, distributed systems, or component-oriented software engineering is desirable but not mandatory. This position provides an excellent opportunity to deepen your skill set, working on challenging projects in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

    What you'll be doing

    • Engage in close collaboration with the Product Manager, Team Lead, and Designer, offering technical insights and initial estimations on assigned projects.
    • Lead technical design discussions, proposing innovative solutions for backend components.
    • Construct Proof of Concept (POC) models to test potential technologies, allowing for informed decision-making.
    • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure the technical platform's scalability, performance, maintainability, and security.
    • Actively engage in full-stack coding, conducting code reviews, and testing.
    • Harness your experience to mentor junior team members and promote best coding practices, such as Test-Driven Development (TDD).
    • Become a pivotal contributor to enhancing working practices across Zendesk.

    What you bring to the role

    • Basic Qualifications
      Proven track record in Software Engineering, with robust skills in one of the major web programming languages (Java, Python, Ruby, or Go).
      Working knowledge of Javascript and experience with NodeJS and React.
      Strong comprehension of Web technologies, including understanding interactions between frontend clients (e.g., web browsers) and backend stacks.
      Strong troubleshooting skills, with experience in tracing metrics, logs and traces across different services.
      Solid grasp of data structures and algorithms.
      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused attitude and a reliable commitment to deliver.
      Involvement in personal projects, collaboration with the open-source community, or active participation in learning initiatives, signaling a strong passion for learning and problem-solving.
    • Preferred Qualifications:
      Prior experience in building scalable, distributed systems (familiarity with Kafka, GraphQL and gRPC is an advantage).
