    Roles & Responsibilities

    Company Overview:

Paratus Sciences ) is a startup biotech company dedicated to improving human health and health security through an understanding of bat biology. We focus on identifying and developing groundbreaking therapeutics for a myriad of diseases by unlocking the secrets of the bat genome. The company received $100 million Series A financing in 2021.

In addition to powered flight, bats have evolved the ability to control inflammation, tolerate viral infection, resist cancer, accept extreme diets, and live exceptionally long lives for a mammal of their size. However, the elusive lifestyle of bats coupled with a lack of scientific tools and reagents has made the study of these extraordinary animals difficult and slow going. We are developing the tools and methods necessary to understand the extreme and unique attributes of bat biology and apply these insights to identify and develop new therapies to address some of the most challenging health issues facing humankind.

    Position Overview:

The Therapeutics Discovery unit in Singapore is looking for an Associate Principal Scientist (Discovery Biology) to join our team in Inflammation and Immunology (I&I). Our ideal candidate should have a strong background in immunology and inflammation biology, have extensive experience in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, in vitro pharmacology techniques, and using human/disease-relevant preclinical models. As a member of our I&I team, you will deploy these skills for the identification of novel therapeutic targets based on the extraordinary adaptive biology of bats. You may also serve as a project leader for target validation and drug discovery projects to support our I&I portfolio. We are seeking a committed and collaborative team member who will thrive in a dynamic culture.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a Discovery Biology lead to advance drug targets in Inflammation and Immunology (I&I).
    • Work collaboratively on cross-functional teams to drive the identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets, using in vitro and in vivo models.
    • Participate on multi-disciplinary teams to advance drug discovery programs from lead identification to lead optimization and preclinical candidate selection.
    • Design and oversee the implementation of experimental plans to evaluate the proof-of-concept, efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetic properties of drug candidates.
    • Analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot technical challenges, and make data-driven decisions to advance drug discovery projects.
    • Stay abreast of scientific literature, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to inform on project strategy.
    • Contribute to the preparation of project proposals, project updates, scientific reports, and laboratory SOPs.
    • Analyze and document experimental data in an electronic laboratory notebook in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with the company's quality management system.
    • Mentor and inspire team members at all levels.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • PhD in Immunology or a related scientific discipline.
    • 7-10 years of relevant laboratory research experience, with at least 2-3 years of industry experience.
    • Proven track record of executing drug discovery projects from target identification through preclinical candidate selection.
    • Experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry techniques, assay development and target validation methodologies.
    • Experience with in vivo models of disease and other human/disease-relevant preclinical models.
    • Strong understanding of drug discovery principles.
    • Working knowledge of one or more drug modalities, such as small molecules, biologics or RNA-based therapeutics.
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for translating scientific innovation into therapeutic opportunities.
    • Team player with a positive, proactive, can-do attitude.
