We are seeking a leader for the Global Data Protection Team (previously known as Data Loss Prevention -DLP).

The team is global, with members located in North America and in Asia and is charged with protecting Our Customer's and Manulife's data.

This important function is critical to meeting regulatory and compliance requirements and for Manulife to be a trustworthy custodian of our Customer's data.


The team has extensive reporting requirements and has a regular reporting cycle, meeting with each Segment, Key Stakeholders, and a Governance with Senior members from Information Security and Privacy.


Since many control points for Data Protection are not (and will not) be directly managed by this team, one of the key tasks for this role is to expand the scope of Data Protection Governance to provide a holistic and thorough view and oversight of the web of Data Protection technologies and services.


Your responsibilities will include

  • Manage existing Data Protection team to ensure continuity and high level of service
  • Make product and service decisions within the areas directly managed by the Data Protection Department
  • Build a comprehensive and holistic Data Protection Roadmap, using information from the technologies under management of the Data Protection Team and information provided by technology owners in any other areas that are components of the holistic view.
  • Obtain buyin of the roadmap from all stakeholders and deliver the roadmap on time on budget.
  • Leverage the Governance meeting to bring direct governance to all technology areas that make up the holistic Data Protection Roadmap
  • Interface with Segment contacts to receive feedback on team performance and to better understand their needs and requirements
  • Partner with the Segments to better develop the Data Protection Roadmap and understand their business requirements and constraints
  • Lead the Data Protection team through constant incremental improvements of the service

Key Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years managing a remote team
  • 5+ years people management experience, passionate about helping direct reports to grow.
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Protection including Data Loss Prevention.
  • 10+ years of experiences in Information Security processes and tools.
  • Excellent ability to assess data risk in various contexts and make riskbased decision esp. on prioritization of deliveries of various DLP solutions.
  • Excellent ability to design and implement solutions within the time and budget constraints.
  • Process development and oversight
  • Understanding and knowledge of data analysis and reporting
  • Ability to work with and influence other related departments
  • Ability to understand other department's work, processes, needs, and constraints
  • Excellent communications, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership
  • Lead point of contact for Segments for Data Protection related issues
  • Vendor management and negotiations
  • Knowledge of finances and managing a budget
  • Genuine passion for ensuring that the firm operates in a manner consistent with Security Standards, Regulatory and Compliance requirements, while enabling the business to perform its duties

Additional Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer Engineering, Science, or related field. An advanced graduate degree is a plus but not required.
  • Security certification or relevant IT security experience (CISSP, CISM, CIPM, SANS)
  • Experience in the financial industry (Optional)

Location

  • The incumbent will work from an Asia location in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore or the Philippines. He/she will work from the office for 2 days a week minimum, while working from home in the rest of the week.

Working Hours

  • The incumbent needs to work in flexible hours during the weekdays due to the need to interface with the team members and stakeholders in North America and Asia. Meeting at night between 8pm 10pm, as well as early morning meetings starting from 8am will be quite common.
