About Atul Vatsa:
Atul is an experienced Seafarer with more than 35 years of experience in the maritime industry. Has held diverse portfolio of function ashore and spearheaded the Marine department (Marine Operations, Vetting, TMSA, DryBMA, Marine & Safety, Incident Investigations) and Environmental department. He has held senior management position and was also part of Leadership Team.
After successfully completing 18 years of sea service (7 Years of command experience) he ventured ashore.
During the early years ashore, his focus was to ensure vessel’s run to the highest safety standards, ensure compliance to oil major vetting standards. Worked with the training department to develop, enhance marine related courses, VIQ awareness training, bridge team management, advanced senior office ship handling simulator course. Also assisted in developing 3D Animated Marine Safety videos.

Atul has spoken in various industry conference and presented paper on vetting (Winning with Sire & Managing Sire in a large fleet) at OCIMF inspector course in Singapore and during Oil Majors conference.
Has been an active member of Intertanko and was a member of the Vetting & Environmental committee from 2013 and 2016 respectively. His work with the Vetting committee involved improving all aspects of ships inspection, vetting, PSC and participated in relevant industry work groups in ensuring bridging the gaps between various stakeholders which helped to promote safety and quality standards within the industry. In terms of Environmental committee Atul contributed with Environmental issues, Environmental compliance Ballast water management, Environmental Performance and Monitoring, Waste Management and MARPOL Annex V, etc during his tenure
Atul is presently a member of National MARITIME safety at sea council (MNSSC) Singapore since 2017. Working closely with MPA on issues related to Navigational safety in Singapore straits. The MNSSC spearheads the drive for maritime safety on a national level and ensures the sustainability of safety efforts. The council also serves as an advisory body to the MPA on maritime safety.
Experience
Atul started his sailing carrier on 30 Oct 1984 when he joined TS Rajendra for his pre-sea training and completed his cadetship with Zodiac, Ratnakar shipping. He joined Wallem Shipmanagement Hongkong as a 3rd officer in 1989, took over command in 1998 and continued to sail till mid 2005 with a command experience of 7 years on board Wallem Tankers.
