Doan Thuc Do

My name is Thuc Do. I am current doing PhD in Tourism at the University of Algarve in Portugal and going to deliver my PhD thesis by the end of 2022. I have got several hospitality and tourism related research papers published in Scopus indexed journals during my PhD study. Before that, I have earned my Master in Business Administration in Hospitality Management that certified by Queen Margaret University (campus located in Singapore). 

Before starting my PhD journey, I was teaching as a Full-time lecturer in Tourism Department at Hoa Sen University. My advantage is able to teach tourism/ business related subjects both in Vietnamese and English. Beside applying active teaching methods, my enthusiasm and friendliness  have been motivating students engaging more actively in study and improving their lifelong learning skills. 

About industry working experience, I worked as Sales Team Leader at Saigon Travel Company. Working experiences here was definitely a chance to improve not only my Sales skills & knowledge in hotel & tourism industry, but also my management skills to ensure the whole Sales team activities. Before, I had also worked as an Assistant to Deputy Sales Director at Terrabit Networks Pte in Singapore. My main duty is to follow up all the Sales Activities of Customers in order to maintain the good relationship with customers and suppliers overseas. Working experiences with multinational companies was a chance to improve my professional communication skills, various cultures understanding, and English skills.

In addition, I could speak reasonable good English and is well versed in computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Presentation and also quantitative data analysis methods such as SPSS and PLS-SEM.

From Mar 2021 to present: Freelance coach at CoXplore. Mentoring and training soft skills to Japanese students such as: communication skills, multicultural team working, presentation skills.

From Mar 2021 to present:  visiting lecturer at Hoa Sen University and Thai Binh Duong University

 From Apr 2014 to Jun 2019: Full-time lecturer in Hospitality & Tourism Department, Hoa Sen University. 

• Teaching hospitality and tourism related subjects in Vietnamese and English: Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality, Tourism product development, Tour Operations, Theme parks.
• Leading Vietnam – Japan Youth Exchange program between Hoa Sen University and Tokyo Keizai University in Sep, 2016. The program was successful, as it provided students the opportunity to learn a different culture and improve their problem solving skills.
• Experience in developing the course outline of some hospitality and tourism related subjects such as: Travel product development, Theme parks.
• Good feedback from students in teaching method and attitude.
• Guiding students in their graduation thesis.
• Enthusiastically participating in “Teaching skills enhancement for lecturer” activities and seminars.
• Handling lecturer related tasks in the department: arranging lecture’s schedules, supporting part-time lecturers and ensuring the department activities whould should follow the deadlines from the Academic Department.
• Actively collaborate with the industry which leads to important MOU with leading tourism and hospitality organizations.

From Jan 2018 to June 2019: running Airbnb business in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

From Jan 2013 to March 2014: Worked as Inbound Sales Team Leader at Saigon Travel, a travel agent in Saigon where offers luxury MICE tours and company trips to corporation customers. My main job is looking for new customer account and taking care of existing customers to hit Sales target.

From Aug 2010 to Oct 2012: Worked at Terrabit Networks in Singapore - one of the most successful companies in Singapore Telecommunication Industry has been a chance to highlight my experience and personal skills. Be an assistant for Deputy Sales Director in East Asia market (including Vietnam), my main duty is working closely with customers and suppliers to ensure the good flow of orders.  

From Dec 2019 to present: PhD student in Tourism, University of Algarve, Portugal (expected time to finish April 2023)

From 2008- 1st June 2010: Queen Margaret University, Scotland (located in Singapore) – Master of Business Administration in Hospitality Management.  Got excellent feedback for Human Resource Management & Research Method for Business during the course.

From 2003 to 2007: Economic University in Ho Chi Minh City- Bachelor Degree in Hospitality Management.
