Job Accountabilities & Key Achievements:

  • Extensive experience in managing the performance, development, and training requirements of different ranks (Chief Officer, Second Engineers, and all the Junior officer ranks and cadets) of officers employed by the company for bp operated fleet. Monitor their compliance through appraisals, feedback, and direct communication. Also have the experience of cross training the officers on oil and LNG fleets and planned their training courses to build the required capability.
  • Together with the Recruitment and Planning Manager, successfully implemented Management of Change process for transition of the cadet management from bp Maritime Services Isle Of Man to bp Maritime Services Singapore. 
  • Liaised with various training colleges in UK, Ireland and agencies for management of cadet training (trainee officers) program.
  • Experience in managing cadet training budget and maximizing government funding. Managed the cadet training allowances and made sure they are paid timely and correctly. 
  • Experience in planning and scheduling of the officers for LNG and Oil fleet, senior and junior ranks as a planner for the fleet. Have proven results of providing solutions in case of emergency in shortest period of time. Have been working closely with vessel superintendents and marine superintendents in maximising resources and creating value for the company with the knowledge about LNG and Oil shipping.
  • Experience of working closely with the officers on preparation for the promotion panel and promotion process. Supported the delivery of marine expertise to bp Shipping through secondment of the officers and other short-term projects.
  • Investigated and lead several disciplinary cases for the officers as required in compliance with the employment for the sea staff. Experience in handling Open Talk cases – a mode of raising concerns to the company for the seastaff. 
  • Experience of conducting various audits both internal and external for e.g., auditing the contractors - BSM and ESM for compliance as per the contract signed, also audited our own internal team on operation management system as part of self-verification.
  • Experience of undertaking various projects like review of employee handbook as per International Labour Organisation (ILO) requirements. Rolling out of Seafarers Employment Agreement as per Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), implementation of crew management systems – Compas and PDMS, roll out of Compas for Oil fleet, reviewing our process to drive the continuous improvement by working on bpMS survey, study leave process, review of various documents based on latest guidelines. I have contributed to numerous continuous improvement ideas.
  • Have experience of handling various emergency situations as bpMS emergency duty manager and supported the bp Shipping Incident Management team when it was activated during time of emergency.
  • Experience of preparing various types of reports for management, presentation for conference. Lead the team during sea staff conference, gave presentations.
  • Managed Talent Acquisition Site (TAS), bp website & other websites for advertisement and for other information on cadets.

 

  • Worked as Assistant Performance and Development Officer with bp Maritime Services, Singapore from 1st June 2007 until May 2010.
  • Was responsible in implementation of training plans for officers. Liaised with the course providers to coordinate training courses.
  • Assisted Recruitment & Planning Manager in planning and recruitment process for marine officers, by providing support and advice on recruitment interviews, pre-employment medicals and to promote best practice.
