Low May Teng

I am a year 2 university student pursuing a bachelor's degree in nutrition science, with 4 years of work experience in food microbiology, and was previously a food science and nutrition student at Temasek Polytechnic from 2013-2017. Despite my varied science background, I am interested to venture into the food industry in the areas of product development, research on nutrition foods, or even food marketing.   

My most recent professional experience was with Olam Cocoa as a microbiology technician from the year 2017 to 2021. During my stint with the company, I was trained to be proficient in microbiology techniques like pathogen testing with a PCR machine, and daily laboratory testing on raw, processed and finished good samples. Other ad hoc duties included reporting microbe counts of samples into the company's SAP system and documentation of high-count or unacceptable samples for future review. I was briefly assigned to conduct sensory testing for suppliers' milk powder samples for several months.  

During my polytechnic internship, I was assigned to A*star as a nutrition intern to help with data analysis of the GUSTO (Growing up in Singapore towards healthy outcomes ) and S-PRESTO (Singapore PREconception study of long-term maternal and child outcomes) food diaries. Other duties included brief research and presentation on food variety scores for children as assigned by the principal investigator. I was also assigned to the CNRC ( clinical nutrition research center) to help out with the logistics of a weight loss research study. 

I m a year 2 student currently pursuing a 3-year UK Honours Bachelor of Nutrition Science degree from the University of Roehampton under MDIS ( Management Development Institue of Singapore ). To date, I have studied modules like food science, disease epidemiology, sports nutrition, public health nutrition and etc.
