About Siew Teng:
Siew Teng completed her degree in psychological science (honours) in 2023 from James Cook University. There she learned the importance and the workings of psychological tests, screenings and reports. She is prepared to apply the scientific methods practised in her university in her future work duties with young children, youths, adults, and seniors. She believes in testing with a purpose and to be an accountable practitioner. This means ensuring the participants' privacy while making the most effective and suitable recommendations to her clients. In the past, she facilitated workshops for participants with ADHD, selective mutism, and autism during her internship with Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH). Her interest is in working with people with mental health issues to maximise their potential in academic, daily functioning and life skills. She hopes to gain more experience working with those with special needs in the clinical and educational industry.
Focus/ Interest: mental health issues, behaviour therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, children, clinical psychology, memory implantation.
Experience
Siew Teng interned with Singapore Association for Mental health. In SAMH Creative Hub, she supported her colleagues' art-making workshops and facilitated her own art and drama workshop. Her participants included those with mental health issues who come from different backgrounds and abilities. Apart from this, she has also worked as an F&B staff and a telemarketer. As a telemarketer, she received the incentive for gathering the most customer in a month. Although this was one of her first working experiences, she managed to learn from those more experienced than her and contribute to the organisation to the best of her ability. She also volunteers her time to give back to the community by helping out at senior activity centres. This opened up her eyes to the diversity of people and the importance of mental health regardless of people's backgrounds.
Education
With a bachelor's degree in psychological science, Siew Teng has learnt the ethics and procedure of gathering information in a scientific manner. Her university experiences prepared her to work in an applied psychology environment. She also learnt how to plan lessons, and interventions and write reports for those with mental health issues. She understands the importance of catering to each client as a unique individual. This is why she believes in investing time and effort to understand the clients' needs, wants, and interests. This would support a more effective intervention that can help him/ her to maximise his/ her potential.
