Roles & Responsibilities

JP Morgan Chase's technology strategy and direction are strongly oriented towards investigation and research of emerging technologies, such as quantum technologies. Our firm is looking to recruit a researcher to perform research and development of novel solutions in quantum communications, cryptography, and information theory.

As a Quantum Security Research Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief Technology Office, Global Technology Applied Research Team you will work closely with internal project teams, senior management, and external communities to advance Quantum Communications & Cryptography research.

Job Responsibilities:

• To lead and take end-to-end ownership, from conception to delivery, of novel quantum-safe Key Management System and associated components

+ Optimize the Key Management System under distributed settings for scalability, reliability and performance

+ Design operational security practices for end-users

+ Create educational content and documentation for end-users

• Advance the field of quantum communications and quantum cryptography by contributing to other research workstreams and IP generation

• To lead or participate in discussions or partnerships with external organizations, such as academic institutions and leading technology firms

Required Qualifications, capabilities and skills

• B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required

• Minimum 2 years of total working experience in Quantum Security Research or related work

• Strong programming skills in relevant languages such as C, Go, Rust, C++, Python and Java, where appropriate

• Well versed in networking stack (OSI layer), operating systems, cryptography, algorithm design and computer architecture

• Experienced in writing cross-platform, multi-threaded, concurrent applications

• Experienced in designing microservices (e.g. Prometheus, Jaegar, Opentelemetry, Grafana, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana)

• Experienced in automation of hybrid deployment to both bare-metal and cloud (e.g. Ansible, Saltstack, Helm, Kubernetes, Terraform)

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications, capabilities and skills

• Experience in implementing low level cryptographic primitives with understanding of cryptographic proof systems

• Familiarity with common distributed systems (e.g. Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, Flink, Hadoop)

• Experience with programming with embedded and/or low-latency systems

• Experience modifying and contributing to open-source codebases

• Track record in research (e.g., publications in high-impact factor journals and active participation in leading conferences), industrial research experience is a plus

• Understanding of technology tradeoffs and a pragmatic approach to problem solving
