Description

As a member of a team responsible for overseeing the operation of designated vessels, it is essential to be knowledgeable about the classification rules for the vessels under your jurisdiction.

Maintaining the vessels in coordination with crew members and ensuring they are always ready for operation should be a top priority.

Scheduling and coordinating Flag/Class and any related vessel inspections is also an important aspect of the role.

In addition, developing and managing the vessel budget, including promptly reporting any unexpected expenses, and controlling the efficient utilization of machinery hours where redundancy is available is crucial.

If there are any defects or deficiencies, it is important to address them quickly to prevent downtime.

Any potential hazards or risks that may arise from a contingency or vessel failure should be reported to the Assistant Technical Manager.

Technical support from specialized engineers should be arranged when necessary, in consultation with the Assistant Technical Manager.

Evaluating machinery performance, PMS forms, and reporting any necessary actions to the Assistant Technical Manager, as well as analyzing lube oil/bunker data and reporting any non-conformities and recommendations to the vessel are also key tasks.

Efficient management of any vessel downtime to restore it to operational status is important, as is monitoring and taking appropriate actions to improve the performance of the designated vessels for better operation management.

A planned schedule for the designated vessels should be developed, and at least two ship visits per week or more, as necessary, should be conducted to effectively manage machinery space housekeeping.

Assessing the chief engineer at intervals no more than 6 months or more frequently as needed and participating in shipboard meetings with the port captain at intervals no more than 12 months or more frequently as needed are also important responsibilities.

Timely closing out any non-conformances and observations documented in reports, planning and attending to the periodic and occasional docking of the assigned vessels, and addressing and following up on any ship-related requirements related to third-party claims are all crucial tasks.

Assisting in incident investigations and collaborating with the port captain to complete the investigation report, as well as providing feedback on all tasks during company meetings, are also important responsibilities.

Additionally, jointly attending SMC and MLC audits and SIRE inspections with the port captain is a key aspect of the role.
