About Andrew Wen Jie Tan:
I love learning. Growing up, I always wanted to be an educator; perhaps this was inspired by the teachers around me who have shaped me to be the person I am today.
When it was time to find an internship, I chose to join the EdTech startup, Cialfo, as a Product Management Intern (and subsequently, Product Owner). After all, I wanted to make a difference to the lives of other students as well. The opportunity proved to be a real blessing as I was given opportunities to spearhead a team of software engineers to develop new software features like Direct Apply - a one stop application to democratise education to students all around the world.
Furthermore, I was involved in the automation of data analysis in Cialfo for the founders and shareholders to gain better business insights behind our products. Through this, we were able to better identify gaps in our products based on consumers' needs and further innovate using Agile methodologies. Beyond the humanitarian aspect of improving lives, I relished in the opportunities that cultivated the problem-solving skills I have today.
Today, I utilise the problem-solving, design thinking and analytical skills I learn as an Engineering student to craft solutions for people and organisations around me. Given the digital age now, there is no better time to learn new skills to constantly improve myself; I am excited to seize the opportunities out there and be a part of the story and growth of your organisation!
Experience
I previously served as the Product Owner at the EdTech startup, Cialfo Pte Ltd, where I led a team of 10 software engineers using Agile Methodologies to develop innovative features for a college application platform in short sprint cycles. Some of the features we worked on include calendar visits feature, application submission portal and Notifications and Emails systems.
Education
I am currently a Year 2 student in the National University of Singapore (NUS), majoring in Mechanical Engineering (Aeronautical Specialisation) and minoring in Computer Science. I am also pursuing an interest in Business Analytics, and will be heading to Imperial College of London for a one-year exchange programme in Engineering and Computing.
