Hi! I am Jing Wei, a Computer Engineering student passionate about the Internet of Things (IoT). Having liked building circuits since young and finding my interest in coding while serving in the Singapore Army, the passion for both hardware and software compelled me to take up Computer Engineering. I love to pick up new skills and experience new things that put me out of my comfort zone. Currently, I am pursuing my interest in incorporating Artificial Intelligence with FPGAs. Aside from academics and personal projects, in my free time, I like to exercise, meet up with friends, and play video games.

Internet of Things (IoT) Intern at startup developing reliable communication devices and apps for field workers

• Worked on incorporating OpenHayStack firmware code into nRF51822 chips to create small, low-cost Bluetooth beacons. Modified firmware code to transmit both sensor and location data
• Researched and liaised with Helium Network team to create a new HaLoW WiFi subDAO which provides a decentralized and cost-effective solution for IoT device connectivity
• Wrote proposal to enter Pier71’s Smart Port Challenge to improve wireless connectivity in Singapore’s port waters. Completed company’s solution of setting up mesh network on internet routers using OpenWRT

Systems Integration Intern at startup aiming to automate inspection of infrastructure facilities

• Developed and deployed a functional wall-climbing robot equipped with the company’s Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) scanner which checks for internal damage in walls for 2 successful projects
• Coded on the FPGA ZedBoard to increase the scanning speed of their existing scanners by 2 times
• Worked with team members to develop a more portable handheld scanner. In charge of coding, designing the PCB and testing the final product using MATLAB. Did some designing using Fusion360
• Main responsibilities include overseeing code integration between the robot and scanner, such as UART and SPI communication between embedded devices like Raspberry Pi, Arduino and Zedboard

Embedded Systems Intern at startup aiming to gamify plant care

• Used Raspberry Pi and microcontrollers like ESP32 to develop a smart plant pot with LED animations and Bluetooth speaker functionality using ADC/DAC and I2S communication protocol 
• Worked with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to set up Over-The-Air firmware update functionality to the plant pot, and worked with Firebase database to store data
• Developed mobile application to send notifications based on data sent from the plant pot
