About Nigel Keng:
I graduated with a degree in Engineering Product Development specialised in Healthcare Engineering Design from the Singapore University of Technology and Design. I am interested in being part of the healthcare sector, which fosters professional growth and offers opportunities to demonstrate my critical thinking and design skills. With my eagerness to learn, I have been involved in process optimization, quality control, and project management through exposure to industrial projects and internship experiences in a pharmaceutical setting.
Experience
I have gained valuable experience through various roles, including as a Chemical Engineering Intern at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Quality Road from September 2022 to December 2022. In this position, I forecasted supply and demand to synchronize production and downstream processes, participated in developing a user-friendly Distributed Control System (DCS) interface for a new plant, and improved a continuous improvement project to reduce operating costs using a 6-step root-cause analysis. I also ensured compliance with cGMP and EHS standards and became proficient in interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID). Prior to this, I worked as a Biotechnologist Assistant Intern at LONZA from March 2017 to August 2017, where I prepared dispensing and batch records, managed consumables, received training in gowning and water sampling techniques, and contributed to the implementation of a Kanban system. Additionally, I worked as a Retail Assistant at NTUC FairPrice from November 2013 to January 2017, where I implemented merchandising displays and provided excellent customer service.
In addition to my work experience, I completed several collaborative projects during my studies at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. From September 2023 to April 2024, I worked on a capstone project in collaboration with KLASS, where my team designed a chassis to integrate inside any vehicle to synchronize with existing models and identify mismatched vehicle models. We collected extensive road footage and annotations for model training and became proficient in troubleshooting and redesigning solutions for new requirements. In another project with Changi General Hospital from September 2023 to December 2023, my team developed a device to detect missing acupuncture needles, identifying key problems through user interviews and addressing user needs. Earlier, from January 2023 to April 2023, I collaborated with Singapore General Hospital to develop an efficient wrist positioner for radiologists using 3D scans of patient hands and Fusion 360, contributing to research on a new workflow for wrist splints that significantly reduced time compared to conventional methods.
Education
I graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Product Design) with Honours from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in April 2024, specializing in Healthcare Engineering.
