Medical Technologist II, Parkway Laboratory Services (Covid-19) & Gleneagles Hospital (Clinical Lab)

As a medical technologist in Parkway Laboratory Services for Covid-19, I was tasked to carry out Covid-19 PCR tests using COBAS and Resolute 2.0. I was trained to handle Covid-19 samples, prepare reagents for PCR and analyse results from PCR. It was a fast-paced environment due to samples coming from pre-departure flights, hence, verification of results had to be done within 3 hours. I was competent in analysing and verifying the results quickly with minimal errors. I was given the opportunity to lead my team for a short while before transferring to clinical lab in Gleneagles Hospital. In Gleneagles, I was trained in Blood Bank and Haematology. I am capable of taking requests from nurses and doctors for blood products (Red cell, Platelets, Frozen plasma etc.) and knowledgeable in responding to queries related to Blood Bank. Some tests carried out in Blood Bank includes manual and auto-ABO typing and Direct Comb’s test. In Haematology department, I am familiar with using ADVIA 2120i machine for Full Blood Count. I am able to read peripheral blood film (PBF) and do differential count on patients’ samples. I was able to work under pressure despite the copious number of samples required to run tests and results to be verified immediately.
