Serin Kim

As a recent graduate in bachelor in mechanical engineering with specialization in Robotics, I know that my versatile skills and experience in the robotic field could be a great asset in your company.

I have gained valuable experience with ROS and basis of path planning model, from my final year project in RNDFs path modelling for autonomous vehicles. During my final year project, I honed my knowledge in path planning model for autonomous vehicles using a new innovative programming language called Julia. From this, I was able to build on route network definition file that are necessary in building simulated road segments and waypoints, for vehicles to follow. This enabled me to have deeper understanding of how to design a simulated UI system for robot navigation, by using different methods such as RNDF or ROS. This experience provided me with the impetus to pursue my fascination with robotics and consolidated my interest in being an engineer.

I have developed excellent interpersonal skills and critical-thinking skills throughout my experience in my internship in Herrenknecht, as an engineer. During this experience, I was able to present new design ideas on how advance excavation monitoring dashboard for EPB Shield Tunneling Machine should be designed, to company executives in Germany HQ. I have also worked with global projects and designing of EPB machines that caters to customer demands, designed specific to their individual solutions. From these experiences, it honed me skills of how to collect market insight to plan suitable pricing for global customer’s needs. With developing team communication skills and company experience, I am confident that I would provide creative ideas for any challenges or solutions for global projects.

Apart from technical skills, I have had a variety of experiences outside schoolwork that allowed me to deepen my interest in robotics as well as to build great teamwork skills, leadership, and self-discipline. Ranging from school competitions such as Rover hackathons, I took part in ARC summer project in collaboration with Boston Dynamics, on image segmentation of Spot Robot for navigation. As a person full of inquisitiveness and curiosity, my satisfaction with the answer to a challenging question is indescribable. My past experience honed my skills, gave me knowledge, and fulfilled my potential to adapt to industrial needs. I am enthusiastic to achieve positive and fruitful results if given the opportunity work in Continental.

I have always explored different variety of professional work experiences during my studies. As starting with being a Student Researcher, in NUS, I assisted NUS Professor Peter in a research project for the succession in family firms in Korea. In doing so, I developed research skills and excelled in supporting data findings of family firms in Korea. Moreover, I have also organised data via generating code numbers for each category for easy access and data orientation, using professional platforms such as DART and TOEFL efficiently. Overall, I showed punctual and excellent behavior, and diligently delivered project tasks. My experience in Herrenknecht as an intern was also an extremely fruitful learning in nurturing my skills in a working setting. In Herrenknecht, I created summary of information of breakthrough projects from all over Asia, with great understanding in the performance of TBM machines. Moreover, I also presented new design idea on advance excavation monitoring for EPB Shield Tunneling Machine and promoted new dashboard design to company executives in Germany HQ. In doing so I was extremely adept at independently crafting custom project summary reports for a myriad of global projects, and also developed team communication skills and company experience. Lastly, I have been constantly working as a Korean language tutor together with my academics, and executed excellent time management skill by having a part-time job together with academics.

As a student in Mechanical Engineering in NUS, with specialisation in robotics, I would like to talk about my Final Year Project in RNDPs using Julia. My FYP topic focused on using Julia Programming Language to create UX tool for Automated Vehicle (AV) operation. During this experience, I researched in developing Julia library tools such as Makie, Interact, Gtk and Javascript to code an UX platform which enables users to manually move waypoints for the AV from point A to point B. Working closely with company Moovita to develop UX tool to employ on the AV to safely navigate around the deployment area. My experience in exchange in Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany has also greatly nurtured my experience in my field of studies. From TUM, I successfully finished Master level modules: Methods in Neuromechanics, On-Orbit Dynamics. Overall, I would like to describe myself as a passionate person full of curiosity.
