Description
[What the role is]Undertake the function of Economist / Senior Economist in the Statistics & Data Systems (SDS) department to (i) work with business users to understand and address data and analysis requirements, and (ii) undertake economic analysis to transform data into insights and knowledge for policymaking.
[What you will be working on]Work with business users within MPA to understand their needs and challenges, scope problems and develop economics-related use cases.
Transform data into insights and data solutions by applying qualitative and quantitative analyses, econometric modelling, and forecasting techniques.
Work closely with non-technical users, project managers and core data science team to build and deploy scalable analytics algorithms and models that inform policy-making and streamline operations.
This could include outcome projections of implementing certain business strategies that result in actionable insights.Coordinate research and analysis by tapping on various data sources (both unstructured and structured).
Employ effective use of appropriate software and programming to clean, wrangle and organise data to transform market and operational data into clear and appropriate business commentary for publications and action by user divisions.
Gather and interpret trade intelligence from a variety of sources and identify implications of intelligence gathered on Maritime Singapore's economic strategies and policies.
Develop logically structured presentations including narratives of research and/or analytics findings to secure stakeholder commitment. This can include sophisticated visualizations and dashboards to explain these results.[What we are looking for]
Background in Economics, Business Analytics, Applied Statistics, or other related disciplines that possess an analytical and quantitative component. Experience in business consultancy / industry analysis can also be considered.
Able to code using Python/R and data visualization tools to perform data analysis and communicate findings.
Strong knowledge of econometrics and business concepts is a plus.
Strong communication skills with ability to articulate and present complex data insights and information for broad range of audience in a concise and actionable manner.
Understand business processes well.Creative and innovative in solving problems.
Achievement driven and delivery focused while maintaining required quality.
Team player with strong organisational and people management skills.
Experience in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams that combine technical, business and data science competencies.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to pitch ideas and influence stakeholders.
Past working experience in an Economist role is a plus.
