Liu Ruiyan

My Undergraduate Research at NTU (URECA) experience with Dr Willy Adian Renandya piqued my interest in literacy and its wide-reaching influence on other areas of students' lives. Outside of academics, I work with children to improve their phonics every weekend. My work provides me with real-life knowledge of how important literacy is to a child's academics, social and communication skills. My diploma in psychology studies has also exposed me to intervention techniques in classroom settings, which I apply whenever appropriate. 

Advanced Montessori International | Teacher  (06/2021-06/2023)

• Educated and trained preschool children, with occasional primary school students, in improving their phonetic pronunciations.
• Examined the differing needs of children and developed different communicative and teaching methods to address key phonetical issues.
• Experienced and understood first-hand the importance of literacy and verbal articulation in children, including its influence on other encompassing aspects of their life (i.e., social and academics)
• Mentored primary school children in their academic curriculum (i.e., English, math, and creative writing).
• Assisted center manager with admin work and center maintenance. 

Alzheimer’s Disease Association | Intern

• Assisted department manager in the planning and implementation of weekly programs. 
• Communicated with elderlies with dementia over the period of three months to identify key issues affecting their emotional well-being.
• Reported qualitative findings and examined them in relation to relevant journals. 
• Independently developed and successfully implemented a one-month program to alleviate issues identified in research.
